Scenario / Plan of the Day: Operation Jungle Lightning Introduction: This event designed to give the participants a unique reenacting experience for the weekend. The event will utilize multiple impressions and groups to achieve a cohesive structure. There will be SF / LRRP units for scouting and fixing the enemy position. Both regular line infantry and ABN infantry units are welcome and will be used to move against the NVA / Viet Cong Forces of Southern Command. We will have lots of vehicles including jeeps, mules, trucks and tracks, so vehicles and their drivers are welcome! We will also be staying in a barracks area so garrison impressions such as clerical and MP could certainly be put to use for checkin and registration on Friday. The area of operations will encompass about a hundred acres at Camp Anderson. Time frame is 1969, so please ensure your specific impression is correct for this time. We are also expecting a high turn out and this is shaping up to be an excellent event. US Battle Fee: The battle fee for GI reenactors is $40. This includes the battle fee and barracks fees to the owner of the property. VC/NVA Fee: The battle fee for Viet Cong / NVA forces is $40 as well. Arrival: All arrivals will meet at Camp Anderson on Friday. The entrance to the event will be marked on the main roads. Upon arrival, you will unload your personal equipment at the designated parking area. You will gather your equipment and process through registration / authenticity inspection at this point. After your paperwork is complete, you will be given a safety and authenticity inspection by the MP's on duty. Please make sure you read the authenticity requirements and note that if you have any modern conveniences, modern food, incorrect weapon, incorrect equipment / uniforms items, you will be asked to place them back in your car. If you refuse, you will be asked to leave. There is no arguing over authenticity; the requirements of the event are being clearly laid out. Transport to / Leaving the Field: On Sunday morning all participants will be returned to their vehicles after policing the area, etc. If everyone pitches in, you should be able to leave the property by 10am on Sunday.
Helpful
Hints from Capt. January 2. US line infantry troops operating in the field will be required to wear helmets. Soft covers are acceptable only for use within the firebase or by SF / LRRP in the field. 3. Everyone is subject to the chain of command. If you have a problem doing what you are asked, stay home. If you experience any issues with another reenactor, please advise an NCO or Officer. No need to ruin your event by getting arrested for assault. Event organizers will address the situation. 4. Expect to work. Both sides will have details for preparing fighting positions and clean up at the end of the event. Everyone is expected to participate. 5. US troops are encouraged to bring correct rucksacks (Lightweight Rucksack) and extra canteens (as many as you have). Patrols will march out and establish and Objective Rally Point to use as a forward base. The rucks and extra water will be kept there in order to resupply in the field. We want to make sure no one runs dry. The heat is a mother and you can die from it. NVA troops will not be patrolling as much, but should bring extra canteens as well. 6. Plan on bringing your own food and water. This includes something you can eat in the field. 7. Patrols will be limited in duration and distance in order to assure everyone still has the energy to fight. 8. Sleeping arrangements will be limited, so if you have shelter halves or correct OD canvas tarps, please bring them. Not everyone will get a place in a tent. 9. Mississippi offers all the comforts of The Nam, so be aware that the following things can/will be present: Heat, rain, bugs, snakes, dirt, Jasper, thorns, poison ivy and other human beings. Please be sufficiently prepared to deal with any or all of them. 10. Weapons and ammo will be inspected before you take the field. Please assure your weapon is safe and in good operating condition. Weapons should only have a round in the chamber when you are in the field. Clear your weapon upon entering the firebase. Make sure in the field that you weapon stays in the SAFE position unless you are firing, and goes back on SAFE when you are done firing. 11. The most important thing you can bring is a good attitude. If your impression sucks, you will be asked, cheerfully, to correct it. We expect you to cheerfully comply. If you make a mess, you will be asked, cheerfully, to clean it up. We expect you to cheerfully comply. And if you violate safety rules, you will be asked, cheerfully, to stop it. Once. Do it again and we will ask you to leave.
EVENT RULES Tactical: The area is "hot" upon arrival. Squads will be rotated from firebase security to field patrols. Daily chores of firebase life as well as patrolling and humping the boonies will be performed. The tactical is continuous, so guard details will be issued for night. The battle will cease at 23:00 Saturday so you can get some rest before driving home. Communications "Hits" & Casualties Replacements Command Structure If you have any questions about a specific subject or area, please feel free to contact the appropriate person from the list above. Ron Pinkerton will be overall CO for the event and incharge of the base camp. Fletcher Isacks will be the overall commander for US troops in the field. Nathan Friday and Jasper Welsch are in charge of all logistics for the property. If you have questions about what you can and cannot bring, please address them to Fletcher or Nathan. Units attending will be allowed to remain together and use their existing rank structure within reason subject to the overall command staff. If they are understrength, participating units will be combined to create a fighting strength unit to take the field. For example, if you come with 15 or more participants, you will be a platoon leader, if you bring 5 guys you will be a squad leader, etc. All will under the overall command of the 25th.
