M60 Spare Barrel Bag, VN Era / 1960's. These are EXTREMELY rare bags. The original M60 Spare Barrel bags were heavy canvas. The rubberized type bags everyone is familiar with came out in the 1970's (somewhere between 72 and 74) so any M60 bag used in Vietnam, in the 1960's is a canvas bag. The are extremely hard to find now and were simply "used up" during the course of service. If you have an M60 gunner display or impression, or a door gunner set up, you NEED one of these bags. In over 20 years of selling and collecting, I have had one. Much harder to find than canvas magazine bags, etc. Note the distinctive hardware, riveted construction, etc.
This bag is in overall VG+ used condition showing some wear to the canvas in the expected areas. The canvas has been washed, scrubbed and air dried and the zippers lubricated. The main compartment zipper works well as does the shorter exterior pocket. The longer skinny pocket on the front has some damaged teeth and zips about half way. The bag still has the super rare, correct thin 1.25" wide carry strap with large clip. These straps were sewn on one end to the bag so they could not easily be replaced and once damaged would usually be replaced with a GP strap. This thing is as right as you can get. Like the later bags, they were used to carry a spare barrel / bipod for the M60 along with change mitt, tool, etc.
